JMBP talent evaluator Antoine Blanding checks in with University High School guard Blake Gray on his experience at the Prep Ball Stars EPO Showcase.

JMBP- How was is being invited to the Prep Ball Stars EPO event?

Blake Gray- I am thankful to be apart of an event with so many great players around the city. I know that I am capable to play in the same space with them is very encouraging.

JMBP- Going into these events sometimes the ball does not move much, but it looks like the ball was moving pretty good. How were you able to take and make so many shots?

Blake Gray- Going into this event I figured I would have to take shots when I was open and that is what I did. Playing in events like this if you make shots you will keep getting the ball. My teammates were really good about getting me the ball in the right spots. I had fun playing with those guys.

JMBP- You shoot the 3 at a high percentage, what do you do to be so accurate from the 3?

Blake Gray- I make 200 mid-range shots from both elbows and 200 three pointers and 150 free throws when I go to the gym. That routine has been my routine for a while now. It helps my jump shot get better and consistent. My high school coach said if you make 200 a day your shot becomes automatic and your muscle memory never goes away.

JMBP- In this event you played with some really talented players, how do you feel you stacked up against some of the best?

Blake Gray- In this event there were D1 athletes and I feel I am capable to play at that level. As long as I keep working and listening to Coach Colvin my coach with the Indy Nets I will be ok. He has been instrumental on finding ways and little things to make sure I compete every time on the floor.

JMBP- You were one of the highest scoring guards at the event scoring the ball at a high rate, Does that give you confidence in your game?

Blake Gray- How I played and competed in this event it definitely gives me confidence. From this past high school season to now people see the hard work paying off and not just me. This was a great event for me.

JMBP- I know you had a good season last year as a sophomore at University, what do you feel you need to do to have a better season in your junior year?

Blake Gray- To have a better year I feel like I have to get stronger, faster, smarter. My high school coach has been on me about feeling the game out early and adjusting. I know I have to get to the line more and fight pressure with pressure. I got a lot of experience last year which was great. My brother Bryce helped me out a lot with his leadership last season. I have to play at my own pace and not get rushed into bad shots. I think I will have a solid junior year. Our team is very balanced and everyone will get shots. I am really excited to get started with the pre-season.

JMBP- For the college coaches out there watching tell them about your game? And what you can bring to the table.

Blake Gray- I am a 6’2 combo guard who can do some of everything. I can score from all three levels, post up, and defend. I could help a lot of programs at the next level being a scorer, defender and an unselfish teammate. I am working to get that opportunity. I know if I keep working I will get many opportunities.
